When I was 9 years old, I started using my mother’s Cetaphil face wash. I remember getting my first compliments about how soft my face was and bragging about my skincare routine to all the other third-graders in my homeroom.
Somewhere between 9 and now, I fell off the wagon with skincare. I started going to sleep with makeup on. I washed my face when I felt like it. I moisturized when I remembered to. I have notoriously dry skin, and I hated how flaky it looked with makeup, but I wasn’t willing to put in the effort to improve. Even when I started moisturizing semi-regularly, I had loads of blackheads and pimples that I couldn’t seem to get ahead of.
A month ago, I decided to make a change. I started taking off my makeup every single night. I started washing my face and moisturizing twice a day. With just those 3 simple things, my skin came to life.
Maybe you already have a skincare routine. But if you don’t, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. There are exfoliants and serums and toners and cleansers and so many different techniques, it can make your head spin. So start smaller.
Take off your makeup.
Wash your face.
Moisturize.
Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy. If you can’t get yourself to do it twice a day, do it once. The key is consistency, and once you are able to consistently care for your skin, you can start adding in other steps. Set reminders if you have to. Set your skincare products near your toothbrush so you see them.
And remember, it only takes 10 minutes. 10 minutes toward a better you.
Stay lavender!
